What Is Ataraxia?
Welcome to Ataraxia Theatre. The first question I’m usually asked about this comic is, what does Ataraxia mean? As stated in the above strip, Ataraxia is the peace of mind that comes from the suspension of judgment. The second question I’m usually asked is, why did you name your comic after it? I’m still working on a snappy answer to that one.
What is Ataraxia Theatre? It’s an anthology webcomic. There are a number of recurring characters, such as the Vole with No Name and Darcy Generic: Martyr w/o a Cause, but in general the individual stories are standalone pieces.
This is actually the third incarnation of Ataraxia Theatre. It began life in the mid 90s as a minicomic. Unfortunately, some time between then and now I got a job and gave up on making comics for a while. An inspiring visit to the Bucheon Museum of Comics and Animation in 2006 convinced me to restart Ataraxia Theatre on the web at ComicGenesis. You can read the complete archives there, including the pages originally seen in the minicomic.
Now, I’m hosted at Transplant Comics. This site is powered by WordPress and uses Tyler Martin’s ComicPress theme. If you’re reading this on or near the publication date you’ll notice that I haven’t customized the setup at all yet; that’ll be coming soon. For now just enjoy the content-free cleanliness. Feel free to introduce yourself in the comments, or leave spam links- as long as they are entertaining spam links.
Note to philosophy students stumbling onto this page: Professors love it when you include a comic strip as a reference in your essay. Try it and see!
