Damn Fine Comix
If you don’t know what movie I’m talking about above, you clearly don’t read enough comics.
Speaking of not reading enough comics… it has come to my attention that some of you out there don’t know Zippy. Even worse, some people have confused Zippy with Ziggy, resulting in untold amounts of existential angst.
The creator of Zippy, Mr. Bill Griffith, is a real cartoonist’s cartoonist. I mean the sort of cartoonist that cartoonists want to be, cartoonists want to be with, and cartoonists never invite to parties. The sort of cartoonist that will some day only be found in zoos. The type of cartoonist that does cross-hatching for fun. The kind of cartoonist that gets printed by Fantagraphics. You know, a real cartoonist, not like the rest of us latter day pretenders.
If you’ve avoided Zippy in the past just because it makes no sense, go read this handy introduction to the strip. Now you too can discombobulate like a New York intellectual. Er, I guess that should be “be discombobulated” instead of “discombobulate”.
Over the next few weeks I’ll be going through the comics in my links and introducing them one by one.

I like the new site, Joe.
Very clean upscale lookin’ establishment ya got here.
As for Zippy, I know it, but I’ve never liked it much. Though I did really
like Bill Griffith when I saw him in Comic Book Confidential, talented guy.

Thanks.
I’ve had a few brief email exchanges with Bill Griffith, and he does seem like a really cool guy in (virtual) person.

Lookin’ good. I too am a fan of Zippy. Although, I don’t always get what’s going on, I always appreciate the line work.
