Six Perfect Rock Video Moments
Joe’s Theory of Aesthetics, Chapter 5: Perfection. I’ll often describe a work of art as perfect, and this confuses people. What I mean by perfect is that there is no room in the work for improvement. This is not to say that the work is the best of its kind, or even to say that it’s any good. It merely indicates that this work of art has succeeded in being exactly that which it was meant to be, requiring neither anything more nor anything less.
This is a fluffy definition, but it’s something that I feel clearly and strongly in my heart. It could be that with this concept of perfection I’m making a metaphilosophical criticism of aesthetic theory. It could also be that I’m making a segue into today’s comic link.
I know only one webcartoonist who is consistently able to create perfect strips: Robert Sergel of Idiot Comics. He sets the rules for his reader, explains exactly what you’re going to get, and then delivers on that promise in full. Responses to telling people he had a kidney stone? Exactly as advertised. Unsightly torso hair? Unfortunately, yes. Nihilism jokes? You won’t find them more nihilistic.
There’s a certain purity to Idiot Comics; not purity of heart or purity of mind, but purity of essence. It’s like he’s someone who has never tasted fluorinated water. Whatever claim Robert makes at the beginning of the strip, you know he’s going to back it up, though not always in the manner you’d expect.
It’s good. Go read it. Oh, and before I forget, the ansers to today’s quiz: 1 2 3 4 5 6

*picks up electric guitar, strikes a pose and unleashes the only power chord he knows*
Rock on.

Well, you’re one power chord better than me. I love music but I have to be the most non-musical person on the planet.
