Her Mother Did, Though.
I went through a number of alternate titles for today’s strip. Originally I had planned to call it “And now a lil’ something for my vee gee homies”, but men who have reached my age should never use the word “homie”. In case you don’t get today’s joke (hi mom) Seung Mina is a character from the Soul Caliber series of video games. She’s also a little girl who was going nuts with a toy sword at Home Plus today.
You know, despite the fact that I play video games, and I program video games, I think this is the first time I’ve ever done a comic about video games. I’ll tell you someone who has done video game strips, though- Adam at The Flowfield Unity. In fact, he’s done twice as many as I have. Check out the hand-drawn sprites in that second link.
The thing is, Adam draws comics about all kinds of esoteric subjects. There may be a certain amount of navel-gazing involved, but it’s never pointless. His sense of humor is somewhat geeky, very well read, and occasionally dark. I think my favorite single strip at The Flowfield Unity is “Smugness for Dummies“.
About the only thing Adam doesn’t do is colour. I don’t normally go for it either, but lately I’ve felt like experimenting. I hope you enjoy it. Come back on Thursday for one final entertainment strip, then again next Monday for the beginning of the next feature. I think I’m going to put the existentialism story on hold for now and go with something else I’ve been working on. I leave you with a video of the other Seung Mina, taken from YouTube:

Ah, losing your video game webcomic cherry… it was only a matter of time.
Soul Caliber is the reason why my left index finger twitches occasionally of its own accord. I think I broke something internal trying to win a bout or two.
I think you’ve nailed the colour… it looks really good.
…and thanks for the link
to quote Jimbo from the Simpsons, ‘It makes me feel like a man’.

Although I don’t know the game, I’m enjoying your colored work lately.

Thanks. I was thinking of doing the entire next story in color, but I now realize that that was a silly idea. Silly as in it might have killed me.
