Damn Fine Cartoons
If you don’t know who Doraemon is (hi mom), there’s a good chance that you’ve never been a child in Asia. Or that you’ve never been a primary school teacher in Asia. Or that you have no soul. Hie thee to Wikipedia and educate yourself.
They recently featured a heartbreaking (neckbreaking?) time travel story over at Bear & Kitten. Unlike Doraemon, this one you are actively encouraged to overanalyze. It’s cute. It’s sweet. It’s shocking. It’s just plain wrong. I know you hear that all the time, especially about webcomics with names like “A and B” where A and B are two things that don’t normally go together, but Bear & Kitten is different. It’s got a bear. And a kitten. And crudely drawn penii.
I want to say that the thing which makes B&K stand out is the charisma of the title characters, but that’s a total cop out. Charisma is what people say when they like something for no good reason. I’ve got an English degree, dagnabbit, I should be able to do better than that. It’s certainly whimsical. It has clever use of visual storytelling. It’s just simply a well done comic. Go try it out, but don’t blame me when you get addicted.
Coming up next week will be a brand new adventure story. Even more exciting, I plan to update every day from Monday to Friday. I’ll see you then.
