Big Entrance
Last Thursday I said that I’d be updating this story five times a week. Well, I’ve done the math, and that’s just not going to happen. I mean, I could do it. It’s not a physical impossibility. It just wouldn’t be very smart.
One the the first bits of advice I give to young cartoonists is that they should pace themselves. Set aside a certain amount of time for your craft, see how much work you can get done in that time, and try to build up a buffer. Right now that last point is very important since my wife and I are expecting a baby in August. I don’t expect to get much good cartooning time in for the first few months after the birth, at least.
My chief goal for this story is to create something that’s exciting and fun. I don’t plan to include any of my regular intellectual claptrap: no deep symbolism, no gratuitous surreality, no satiric commentary… well, maybe a little bit of satiric commentary. This brings me to a webcomic that should be referenced in Wikipedia under “exciting” and “fun“: Reckless Youth by Claude TC.
This comic is just packed to the brim with fun. The characters and situations have an outlandish vitality; the whole world is set in constant, anarchic motion. I’m not going to bother describing the plot because it’s not that important and besides, you’ll have more fun finding that out on your own. Claude’s submission to the ComicGenesis FCBD book from last year is going to be a collector’s item someday, so if you have a copy you better rip out those two pages and mail them to yourself.
I did a guest strip for Reckless Youth a while back. I’ve been meaning to do a lot more guest strips for people… maybe someday I’ll have the time. But probably not.
