Bigger Versus Better
For the geeks in the audience, allow me to introduce today’s technology. Mischa is armed with a heavy slugthrower and a wiresword. The hilt of the sword contains monofilament cable and a K-Pulse generator; once activated, the cables extend and take the form of a sword. Her dress, incidentally, is a Gofukumachi original.
Aizek is packing a Brash G1 Light Laser Pistol; it’s small and not all that intimidating, but honestly speaking if you’re planning to go to a concert it’s probably best to leave your big guns at home. Its appearance was designed by GearHead item wizard Francisco Munoz, whose personal web page I can’t seem to find right now.
If you’re in the mood for some more scifi comics, try out Nine Planets Without Intelligent Life. Whereas GearHead is pure space opera fluff, NPwIL is old school speculative robot fiction with a dash of absurdism thrown in. It tells the story of two robot friends on a road trip to Pluto. The human race has been extinct for a long time, and the solar system is now inhabited by the descendants of the robots they created.
This series is a lot of fun. It’s imaginative. It’s thought-provoking. It’s vastly underrated- if there were any fairness in this world, NPwIL would be way more popular than Dresden Codak (not that there’s anything wrong with DC). One factor which probably contributes to NPwIL’s obscurity is the fact that it only updates once every couple of months. When it does, though, an entire chapter is posted at once. I’m willing to live with that.
