Ultimatum
Today on the way home from English camp I stopped to pick up some lunch downtown. The streets were absolutely crawling with promotion ladies. For those of you who do not live in Korea, a promotion lady is a person (usually hired two at a time) who stands outside a place of business and attempts to entice people to come inside. There are many variations on this simple theme- sometimes they’ll be giving out free samples or promotional doodads, other times they’ll be wearing skimpy miniskirts and dancing to techno music. Today I saw a technique that I have never seen before, and quite possibly will never see again: the promotion lady was literally grabbing people out of the crowd and pushing them into the store through sheer physical force. It was amazing.
