Female Bonding, Part One

I was talking to my mother this weekend and she revealed that she hasn’t been reading Ataraxia Theatre since the guest artists started. “Fine”, I told her. “Let’s see how you like it when Kenneth or Sandi hear some juicy piece of Korean gossip before you do”.

I guess this is my big opportunity to dish all the dirt on my mother. A few Christmases ago my Aunt Myra was telling us all the stories about her siblings growing up: who nearly killed who, who smoked what, you know. All the good stuff. Unfortunately, when it came time to detail my mother’s youthful indiscretions my Aunt Myra realized that there weren’t any. There was one story about Mom once forgetting to buy a birthday card for someone or something, but it was so boring that I can’t even remember what it was. Talk about disappointing.

Lacking any good stories about my own mother, let me send you to a blog where someone else can tell you about hers: Stuff Korean Moms Like. It’s funny. I showed this blog to Eunsuk and she says it’s the most accurate scientific description of homo sapiens aujumma that she’s ever seen… although she was a bit disturbed at how many of the items from the list apply to her as well as her mother. I only hope that my son will not someday start a website entitled “Stuff Canadian Dads Like”.

As is standard for the trope, these super-deformed strips happen outside of continuity. I’ll be providing the strips for this week; I’m trying to ease back into drawing a few pages at a time. I won’t be telling my mother that, of course… it’ll be so much better if she finds out from someone else.
