The Next Test

2009 was a busy year. I spent the first half trying to strike a balance between parenthood, work, and my projects. I did pretty well in some areas, fell behind in others. All in all I can’t complain.

I have a number of projects planned for 2010. First off, I’m going to finish up Mischa’s Story. Some of you may have noticed that I stopped shading the strips; this is intentional. I didn’t like the way the hatching was going, so I’m experimenting with new techniques. Hopefully I’ll have something to show for the last week in January.

After this story wraps up, I think I’m going to lay my Belgian influences aside and go British for a bit. After reading the 2000AD writer’s guidelines I want to try my hand at some short pieces. I’m going to do a series of five page stories, to be titled either “Five Minutes of Juice” or “Instant Space Opera”.

I’m going to set aside some time to work on my writing. Since Sean arrived I feel like I’m losing my English fluency… this may just be a case of daddy-brain, but the fact that I’m not spending as much time writing as I used to probably has a lot to do with it. Speaking of writing, I’m thinking about developing the Darcy Generic story as a novel. We’ll see what comes of that.

I hope to get GearHead2 to version 1.0 this year. I’ll also be looking for some people to help me with programming- creating a game of this magnitude is a huge task, and I am certifiably insane for attempting to go it alone for so long. I’ll also be looking for someone to take over the maintenance of GH1.

So, what will be included in v1.000? The L5 region of space will be complete. The random story generator should be in its final form. There will probably be some bones-style persistant elements. Hopefully most of the features list should be implemented, if not yet perfectly.

So that’s it. What are your plans for 2010?
