In case you weren't aware, the term thagomizer has been used informally in formal settings to describe tail spikes. In fact, the best I can figure is that "thagomizer" and "tail spikes" are the only two terms for that assemblage of natural weapons. And yes, Gary Larson came up with it. Isn't science beautiful?
