The Way I Am Page One
Today we begin chapter zero of The Great Arcane, the old/new Darcy Generic story. I say “old/new” because it incorporates a reworking of “The Next Big Thing”, “Going Through The Motions”, and “The Usual Suspect”. This chapter is titled “The Way I Am” and hopefully by the end it’ll be clear why it’s number zero.
Recently some of my friends and family have been concerned about the situation unfolding in Korea. Before I go any further let me just say that nobody really expects this to lead to war. Both sides have too much to lose from escalating the conflict… of course I’m sure that’s what Franz Ferdinand thought, too. Or he would have thought, if he hadn’t been dead.
So, how has the nonzero possibility of war affected us so far?
- We’re concerned about the economy and our savings.
- I’ve checked my registration with the Canadian embassy.
- I’ve gotten pissed off with some jackasses on Twitter who think a new Korean war would be the funniest thing ever.
- On the plus side, whenever North Korea does something dumb it means that fewer foreign teachers stick around. When I go job hunting next spring I should be able to get a better deal.
- All those daydreams I’ve had about surviving a zombie apocalypse or alien invasion have now taken on a sinister vibe.
And that’s about it. I’ll let you know if the situation here changes.
