A Game Of Darwin Curie Einstein

As stated above, the financial contributors to ScienceOnline2011 were graded according to three ranks: Darwin, Einstein, and Curie. This led to unfortunate implications and a certain amount of shoe-puking. As BrooksPHD said, that’s a cold move from usually smart folks.

This week everyone is talking about female science bloggers. Christie Wilcox isn’t going to back down. Stephanie Zvan wonders why women only get noticed when they’re talking about ladybusiness. Scicurious and Miriam Goldstein teamed up to hash out some of the issues. Someone whose link I’ve lost then asked why everyone’s so concerned about the lack of prominent women in science blogging when the whole enterprise is so white and straight as to look like a country music festival in Norway… If anybody remembers the article I’m trying to find let me know and I’ll post the link in here.

Just out of curiosity I went through my stats to check the science blogs I’ve linked to in the past year. The #1 most-clicked link from Ataraxia Theatre was Child’s Play, #2 was GrrlScientist (counting This Scientific Life and Punctuated Equilibrium together), and #3 was Dispatches from the Culture Wars. I’m surprised that Grrl only got #2, considering that I did guest comics for her. I’m also surprised that many of the blogs on my daily reading list didn’t make the top 10!

As the one who ultimately made these designations, I’ll say mea culpa but strenuously fight the “cold move from usually smart folks” jab, even while very much enjoying this comic. Nicely done.

You made me snarf my coffee at the “This hair?” bit. Oh, to blame the Jew-fro on science!
