As far as I know, the phrase originated as the battle cry for followers of the god Khorne in the game Warhammer. Since then there have been many homages, including Dwarf Fortress and this comic.
I had just assumed it was probably a reference to Dwarf Fortress because there are many references to that in other games and in other media (including web comics).

Ataraxia Theatre is an anthology of short comic stories by Joseph Hewitt. For the duration of the current story it updates on Monday, Wednesday, and maybe Friday.

I realize that I’m late replying to this. (I’m trying to catch up on the Misha story episodes I missed.) But I have to ask:
“Blood for the Blood God!” …
I realize that you already stated this comic was a Tefé Holland reference. But was the above phrase a reference to the Dwarf Fortress PC game? (That just happens to be a slogan they use semi-regularly.)
